When we think of grandmothers, the image that comes to our mind almost immediately is that of a caring, nurturing, and a warm old woman who more often than not has made these huge sacrifices for family. These sacrifices are no doubt terrific, but it also makes one wonder why this happens so often and why can’t we build a society that doesn’t thrive on patriarchal environments and then lauds and romanticizes the sacrifices, almost making them essential. These feelings led me to portray the character of a grandmother who thrives on living on her terms and at her pace and not being held down by stereotypes and obligations. And, this may or may not be the old gran I see myself being.
