Character and Setting
Happening in the 80’s, when almost everyone around is trying to change with the times and yet hold on to their core beliefs, Minny is a 13-year-old girl. Known as the tomboy of Adyar, on the outskirts of Mangalore, living in a joint family. She plays around on most days in her hand-me-down khaki shorts, hawai chappal and quirky bright coloured shirts and on others, sits by the river mulling over why she’s always told to change. She carries with her an air of confidence around anyone who tells her what she should be like, but deep down she wonders if something is actually wrong with the way she is. No, she doesn’t want to be like a boy. Minny loves flowers and bright blue skies, climbing trees and running along tracks. She does what she does without
attaching a gender role to it. With lively eyes framed by thick eyebrows and wavy long black hair that is always parted in the middle and tied into a low ponytail hair she walks around the town beating odds and unknowingly setting an example to be yourself.
